GTF2026: Driving China’s Gas Turbine and Aero-Engine Industry into a High-End, Global Future
Source: GTF Aerodynamic Gas Turbine ConferenceTime: 2026-01-19

In the past year, the GTF Gas Turbine "Ten Thousand Miles" Research and Survey Team set out from Shanghai and visited China's two-engine industry clusters, including Wuxi, Shenyang, Harbin, Zhuzhou, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Hangzhou, Zhuhai, and Beijing. Through their research, they found that the Chinese two-engine industry chain, represented by gas turbines, is rapidly rising. Major gas turbine manufacturers have successively launched domestically developed models, significantly enhanced the production capabilities of key components, and secured overseas orders or even secured positions among core suppliers in international markets.

Currently, the aviation industry is at a critical juncture marked by accelerated industrialization, structural market shifts, and global supply chain restructuring: international supply-demand imbalances present opportunities for domestic enterprises to expand overseas, while the maturity of domestic aircraft manufacturing and supply chains continues to improve, alongside a growing role for gas-electricity in energy transition.

In this context, the "2026 Gas Turbine and Aircraft Engine Industry Chain New Year Outlook Conference" was held in Beijing on January 15th. The meeting focused on the development status of gas turbine industry, application scenarios, opportunities for going to sea, localization process, gas and electricity development and other core issues. Academicians Liu Daxiang and Zhu Junqiang attended the meeting, and more than 20 representatives from relevant government departments, gas turbine complete machine manufacturing enterprises, power plant and oil and gas users, core parts manufacturing enterprises, Chinese Academy of Sciences Institute of Engineering Thermophysics, Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Xi'an Jiaotong University and other scientific research institutes, as well as the gas turbine power generation special committee of the Chinese Society of Electrical Engineering, China Energy Research Association, the International Gas Alliance and other industry organizations attended the meeting to participate in closed door exchanges, gathering consensus for the rapid development of high-end power equipment industry chain and international layout in the first year of the "15th Five Year Plan".

In the first half of the meeting, the topic of enterprises going global was discussed. Representatives from companies such as China Aviation Engine&Gas, Zhongke Guosheng, Hangya Technology, and Jiangsu Longda introduced their current overseas business layout and planning, and also shared their respective overseas experiences from different perspectives: firstly, selecting suitable overseas markets; Secondly, utilizing the resources and experience of the EPC general contractor to strengthen cooperation; The third is to continuously increase investment in technology research and development, improve product quality and reliability, in order to meet the requirements of overseas markets.

The second half of the meeting discussed the current development status and future opportunities of the gas turbine and gas power industries. The attendees discussed the potential of gas turbines in areas such as vehicle mounted mobile power, new energy peak shaving, AI data centers, and industrial drives from the perspectives of natural gas prices and supply, gas and electricity policies, the localization process of gas turbines, and energy transformation. The attendees pointed out that the current natural gas market is oversupplied, and gas prices are generally on a downward trend. Stable gas supply has laid a solid foundation for the gas turbine power generation industry. The attendees believed that "the joint promotion of energy transformation by gas power and renewable energy is a reasonable energy system that can ensure the security of the power system and avoid resource constraints in the development of renewable energy." "During the 15th Five Year Plan period, domestically produced gas turbines have the basic conditions for industrial application in terms of cost, efficiency, and lifespan, with outstanding cost advantages." "We will carry out the localization substitution work of various models step by step, and cooperate with the supply chain to promote the development of the domestic manufacturing chain

At the meeting, gas turbine user units represented by PetroChina, Sinopec, and CNOOC shared their layout of the gas power industry and held an optimistic attitude towards the future development of the gas power industry. The attending representatives pointed out that during the "15th Five Year Plan" period, the installed capacity will be significantly increased, internal operation and maintenance and domestic substitution work will be gradually promoted, cooperation with mature domestic enterprises will be strengthened, and overseas marketing outlets will be utilized to promote the export of domestic gas turbines and actively explore international markets.

The organizing committee of the GTF Aerodynamic Gas Turbine Conference stated that after the conference, they will lead a team to organize domestic gas turbine units to conduct project inspections and docking in Southeast Asia at the end of January. In addition, the 13th GTF2026 Aviation Power and Gas Turbine Focus Conference, to be held in Shanghai in May 2026, will continue to provide a continuous dialogue platform for relevant government departments, aviation power and gas turbine complete machine enterprises, core component supporting enterprises, research institutes, capital and other parties.

The seminar will not end until cooperation begins. "According to the person in charge of the organizing committee, GTF2026 has launched an international buyer group invitation, expected to attract more than 200 users and buyers from the aviation and gas turbine fields to participate in supply and demand negotiations," turning the consensus of the closed door meeting in Beijing into development opportunities for the aviation power and gas turbine fields in the next five years.

The rising sun in Jinghua warms up, and the spring tide surges in Shanghai. From Yanshan to Huangpu, China's "two machine" industry is firmly grasping the baton of history and setting sail at full speed towards a high-end, green, and intelligent future. From May 12th to 14th, at the Shanghai World Expo Exhibition and Convention Center, GTF will once again gather with various industries to continue the collision of ideas and let cooperation take root.
